22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)

I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (NASB)

In the Bible, when you see the word “Spirit” spelled with a capital “S”, it means the Spirit is coming directly from God. It is not coming from ourselves. Receiving the Spirit directly from God the Father means He is pouring out His divine attributes, His qualities, His goodness, His joy, His peace, and His love directly into us and our personalities. How blessed we are that the Father loves us so much that He would, through the Holy Spirit, allow us to experience and fully appreciate the magnitude of these fruits.

Just think about it. When Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (ESV), He is telling us that we draw our life from Him. The branches cannot have life if it wasn’t for the vines. The branches draw everything they need from the vine. We should live our lives drawing everything we need from Jesus. What a glorious time when Jesus releases all of his divine glory and life into us through the Holy Spirit.

“And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,” 1 Corinthians 1:30 (ESV)

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we experience true sanctification(a state of separation) into God and He can begin the joyous process of molding, shaping and transforming us into His own image so we can be a better and holier person. As we allow the vine to transform and renew our minds with right thinking, we draw closer to God and learn to live godly lives. We renew our minds and draw closer to Him by drenching ourselves in His Word, the Bible.

As we read the Bible and allow God to fill our minds with truth, inspiration, and knowledge we will discover what qualities God wants us to shed and what qualities He wants us to show. To discover these qualities, read and meditate on the “9 Fruits of the Holy Spirit”. When God specifically spells something out it means it is important for us to learn. Take heed to the order they come in. There’s a reason they are in the order they are. Just think, if we can’t learn “how” to love the way God wants us to love, not only ourselves but others, how can we fully understand how to grasp the other 8 fruits?

  2. Joy
