22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)

Webster defines “faith” as, “having or showing true and constant support or loyalty…deserving trust…keeping your promises or doing what you are supposed to do…steadfast in affection or allegiance…firm in adherence to promises or in observance of duty…given with strong assurance…true to the facts, to a standard, or to an original”. Faithfulness is not the faith that we have in Jesus Christ that allowed us to be saved and live out our lives as a Christian, it is our constant “believing” in God’s Word and His character.

In its present state, our world is in dire need of “faithfulness”. The divorce rate is astronomical. People get married now days with the thought of “if it don’t work out there’s always divorce”. Few married couples actually try to resolve their differences and look for a way to “stay together” like God intended us to do. We even need faithfulness in our personal relationships with our friends. Ever been stabbed in the back by someone you thought was a friend?

God expects us to be faithful not only to Him but to our spouses, our children, our parents, and our friends.

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 (NASB)

Hebrews 11:6 talks about how, without faith in God, that we can’t please Him. We have to have faith in who He is, what He can do for us, and what He can accomplish in our lives.

…for we walk by faith, not by ]sight—“ 2 Corinthians 5:7(NASB)

True faith in God is believing God’s Word and the promises He has waiting for us rather than the circumstances this world gives us. In 2 Corinthians 5:7 He is telling us not to walk by what we can see but to have faith in what He says.

“”His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.” Matthew 25:21 (NASB)

Matthew 25:21 tells us as we grow our faith and learn to be faithful with the little things in life, God will send us increase and put us in charge of greater things.

These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.” Revelation 17:14 (NASB)
