Do we cancel out our prayers before they can ever be answered? I am reading this great book “Opening the Gates of Heaven: Walk in the Favor of Answered Prayer and Blessing” by Perry Stone. I can never seem to read enough of any great books on Prayer, there’s always something new to learn. It’s like I read one time, don’t know what book I read it in nor do I know who actually said it, but a man once said, “I’ve read the Bible a thousand times from front to back in my lifetime and learned something new every time I read it. “
I personally believe that God reveals new things to us as we are ready to take it and use it in our lives. There’s no sense in revealing big things to us when we have not quite yet understood how to deal with the little things.
Early in my lifetime when time went by and I didn’t see the answer to prayer that I was anticipating I would think, “Well I guess it wasn’t God’s will for it to happen”. Never once did I ponder that God had answered my prayer, it was just not the way that I thought he would or maybe He answered it and I was just too blind to see the answer.
As my spiritual life and my prayer life has grown over the years, I have come to look at prayer and answered prayer in a totally different way. I have learned that my prayers must be in line with our Heavenly Father and that the results of the answered prayer are for His glory and not ours.
But over the past few years I have yearned for a deeper prayer life with God. I just knew there was something missing and I set out on a mission to understand what the key ingredient was that was missing on my end. Never in my life did I think it would involve Quantum Physics! Yep, it took Lonnie, my husband, and Quantum Physics for the light bulb to light up (and this wonderful book I’m reading)!
For the past two weeks I’ve been working from home over the Christmas holidays putting in four hours and taking four hours vacation time. I thought, “Yea, I can sleep in each morning and get some much needed rest”, but God has something altogether different in mind. Each morning God has awaken me around 2 a.m., nudging me to open my Bible and start reading. There was a specific promise from Him that first morning if I would be faithful in “reading His Word” each day. Not just “reading” His Word, but getting into an in-depth research of it while reading.
This “promise” He gave me is what got me yearning to have a richer and more rewarding prayer life with Him. Along with my daily in-depth Bible reading, I started reading this book three days ago and can’t seem to put it down. I had been listening to the audio version of it for the two days prior. As I was listening to it I thought to myself, I’ve got to get the book, so I downloaded it to my iPad and started reading it in-depth and now I can’t put it down.
Over the years in discussing the Bible, especially The End of Days, with people I have many times quoted “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” 2 Peter 3:8 (ESV) “ (emphasis is mine) and never really understood how it could apply to prayer and Quantum Physics.
This morning God awoke me about 4 a.m. and when I went back to bed I had my iPad with me reading in this book. I got to this part of the book and I bet I read it over and over trying to grasp what God was trying to tell me. Here’s is the excerpt from the book (emphasis is mine):
“There is also an interesting concept based upon the theory of how fast light travels through the universe. Light travels through the vacuum of space at 186,282 miles per second. At this speed, light can travel at approximately 700 million miles per hour. At this speed it would take 100,000 years to travel across the Milky Way. Let me explain these distances using a single sheet of paper. The thickness of one piece of paper represents the distance from the earth to the sun, which is approximately 93 million miles. From the earth to the nearest star, the stack of paper would be 71 feet high. To cover the diameter of the Milky Way, the stack would be 310 miles high. To reach the edge of the known universe, the stack would increase to 1 million miles high.
We know that the dwelling place of God—the gate of heaven, the entrance of the heavenly temple—is far beyond the visible edge of our galaxy. The distance is so far that the region is identified by Paul as the “third heaven” (2 Cor. 12:1–4). When we compare the distance from earth to heaven and the words of our prayers, it almost seems ludicrous to the natural mind that one person can open his or her mouth and pray on earth, and at the same time the words can be heard in a far-flung galaxy called heaven. What an amazing enigma that God, who is billions of light-years away, can hear the slightest cry of one of His earthly children!
One of the explanations of how God can hear your words in an instant may be explained with what is known as “time-light mysteries,” or, as some call it, “Time Dilation Theories.” The theory suggests that if an object were to travel through space while gradually increasing its speed to the speed of light, then time would slow down as the speed increased. The illustration used is that of a man in a spacecraft who set out to travel into the deepest part of the universe, traveling at the speed of light. To reach his first destination, Alpha Centauri, the closest star from earth, it would take three years and six months going from earth to the star. However on earth, ten years would have passed. If the spacecraft moved from earth to the center of the Milky Way, then the journey would take twenty-one years; however, on earth fifty thousand years would have transpired! If the same man traveling at the speed of light traveled to the Andromeda Galaxy (earth’s nearest galaxy), the trip would take twenty-eight years on the spacecraft, but more than two million years will have passed on earth.
It has also been speculated that if a thirty-year-old man could remove himself to a planet thirty light-years away and then point a telescope back to earth, he could see himself being born.” (1)
I’m not the best at math, I use to be when I used it, but I knew it wasn’t the math God was trying to get through my hard head, it was something else. I anxiously awaited for Lonnie to wake up because I wanted to bounce it off his head. When he woke up and got his cup of coffee down, I said, “I want to read you something that has me perplexed and I need to see if you can figure it out!”. So, I read him the section of the book above. He immediately said, “Quantum Physics” to which I gave him this look I like to give him when I’m thinking, “so give me the answer”. He reminded me, “Our time is now God’s time”! Then the light bulb finally lit up inside my head.
It was kind of funny now that I look back on it. The answer was on the next page, but I just couldn’t get past the puzzle of the Quantum Physics to get to it and Lonnie helped. As soon as he helped my light bulb turn on I continued to read in the book and a great analogy was right there (emphasis is mine):
“Picture yourself on earth praying a prayer of faith to receive a needed answer from the Lord. You have petitioned the Father in heaven, and you are thanking Him for hearing your prayer. For the next several weeks you begin to speak faith words indicating your expectation of a possible, sudden visitation from God bringing a much-needed answer to prayer. However, the weeks turn to months, and the months turn into a year.
After a year passes by, your faith begins wavering, and your confession changes. You begin to say, “God is not hearing me. I am weary of waiting and tired of believing … I am going to give up … ”
In your earthly time dimension, twelve months have passed. But how has God perceived this twelve months that has passed? Scripture indicates that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years is as one day (Ps. 90:4; 2 Pet. 3:8). One thousand solar years consist of about 365,250 days. Those days translated to hours is 8,766,000 hours. That’s a lot of time. Yet to God, this time can be equal to one day in the eternal dimension. Theoretically, if you pray a strong prayer of faith and believe for an answer consistently, but experience no answer, you must continue to hold on to your confession, nothing wavering (Heb. 10:23). If in twelve months you change your confession to one of unbelief, in the eternal realm it is possible that the Lord heard your prayer and then heard your words of unbelief within the same time! He heard, “Thank You for answering” … “I don’t know what You are doing” … “Are You doing anything about what I am praying?” The unbelief of your words will always cancel out the answer and blessing to your intercessions.”
As the old saying goes, “Keep on keeping on”! If we have to, we need to get a notebook and write down our prayers to God so we don’t forget when and what our petitions were so that we continue to place them before our Father God each day. Reminding us of the petition brought before Him on a particular date and continue to thank Him in advance for the answer of the prayer. “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23 (ESV)
Be careful that you don’t cancel out your own prayers and petitions to our Father. He longs to answer our prayers. “Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.” Mark 11:24 (NASB)
Without “faith” where would “hope” be? We need to deepen our faith with each passing moment. The stronger our faith is, the stronger our prayer life will be. “… for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.” Matthew 17:20 (NASB) (emphasis is mine)
